MEMORY BOX

1.
It’s for the right of the passage, that we need an army knife It’s from the colt of the mainstream that we protect our sacred life And if the storm waters take you away, toward an after night party Don’t let the bed bugs bite you Don’t let the Cobra’s strike you Don’t be seduced by martyrdom, that is bound to come They will try to seduce with martyrdom that’s bound to come It’s from the heart that we grow our leaves In the morning, the sun will shine and we’ll spread our wings You’re at the waters edge You can sink or swim You can learn to fly, across the skies That keep us apart But if the storm waters take you… You can mend a broken heart
2.
Well I felt so defeated that I just went home I didn’t want to answer my mobile phone Never seem to get the calls from people I know anymore The Woman across the tables jaw had hit the floor When I left the room smoldering, she wanted me to burn The lesson today is when to enact your pride Protect your dignity, don’t succumb to hopeless me Out of all the things I have done – I stand tall But when the moment has gone – I take a fall And when the power has one – I stand tall And when you wish you had a gun! – I take a fall It seems to me to be so hard to control without buttons you can push Like a super hero learning to fly without the proper suit I change my mind again a dozen times Vacillate between the hurt and crime Fight or flight response has been disabled Recriminations have not been tabled And I’m not meaning to fall And I’m not ready to fall And I’m not meaning to fall
3.
Land of Fear 04:04
Lying in the darkness my heart is full of pops and sparks Pull the blankets closer, curl yourself up in to a ball Full moon through the window, try not to look into it’s white abyss And the bogeyman is here, he’s found your secret hideout He’s spreading thoughts and fears To anyone receptive to his whim Every sound could be something sinister Every breath might give you away Shiver to your bones Hold beauty close Hold softness light close Hold the precious thought of being loved close
4.
I feel like sitting in the garden staring up into the trees The sun is shining through the leaves I could be any age I like On the breeze, I can read any page I like I could climb a tree, find cicada’s Footloose fancy free, see you later I feel like a child (repeat) And everybody is a stranger to be cautious of And every trouble is a danger that may leave a scar Perched on a branch, taking a chance, imagine you could land like a bird Covered in greenery, part of the scenery Your heart is beating with the wind I could climb a tree, find cicada’s Footloose fancy free, see you later
5.
White lie blue day, blue day white lie Won’t you ask me why, the Omicron variant won’t die Don’t look so surprised, I’m feeling sarcastic tonight And I look into the sky for the heavens are shining bright tonight White lie blue day, blue day white lie White lie blue day, blue day white lie Yer you shook me shook me all night through
6.
When you find yourself needing to brace And the colour of your face has changed from white to red As if there wasn’t proper warning And there’s no proper place to rest your head I want to be in the garden, I want to be in bed Don’t want to feel like a burden Don’t want to be a pain in the head And it’s nobody’s business and it’s nobody’s task It doesn’t feel like Christmas, when we’re apart There’s exuberance in your boots And a pillow with loot Twinkling neon stars Sit in the most uncomfortable chair The coals are glowing red, sending sparks into the air The smell of pinesap flowing and the embers of the day are glowing Sending cinders to the sky (repeat)
7.
Polystyrene rules in the public house No need to feel for a pulse The publican laughs as he pulls another drink He puts his coins into the till Hello fear, hello ground, hello happy New Year Hello sound, hello tears, hello sound all for the happy New Years This is the slide to take me down (repeat) See the bicycle parts rusting in the grass Covering a screen of violence and hate Emptiness in the air I can smell unhappy feelings here Bottles and broken glass smothered across the grass here The trampoline won’t be hearing happy play today
8.
Turn up the night volume turn up the night Tune up the night costume switch on the light Pull down the night shutters, turn off the light Say goodnight tonight – goodnight Turn off the wrong way road, run a red light Swallow too quickly and then live to regret the effect Turn up the energy and glow like a welcome circuit Turn off the conspiracies and show the worthwhile evidence Turn off the carpet views of those who propagate prejudice Turn up bird songs everywhere Turn off feelings that you despise Turn back rockets carrying billionaires Turn off the engines causing our demise Turn your back on time – Live in permanence Turn your back on crime – live in ignorance Turn your wrong to right – live in arrogance Turn your black to white – live in turbulence Turn your face to the crowd – own your dissidence
9.
Lets say our goodbyes the game has come to its natural conclusion Everybody had fun, it’s time to return to the usual happenings Don’t be greedy for more, or you will spoil the ceremony Everybody had come together Everybody had shared the moment Now we must part, reconvene in a distant future Don’t ever forget you played a part in something special Don’t ever regret, decisions we made that were instrumental Don’t pass this away, gather it close like a prized possession Don’t spoil the day, capture the joy Capture feelings in a glass, be the master of your past (repeat)
10.
Addiction 07:07
Turn up, turn out Turn up the volume in your head Don’t forget to be a proper person tucking children into bed The day is done, time to have some fun And you can glide down the stairs Like you’re on a fancy contraption designed for wheelchairs And you can walk through the studio debris On your way to the monitor display Then something magical transpires, crystal clear feelings inside and the addiction is fed And if something magical should occur You have no need to defer, let the essence take your stride And if it pleases you to wait and let the rain gush down the drain It is the essence that takes your stride And out of the convalescent fog We crawl back into our beds and tuck up tight tonight Then something magical transpires, crystal clear feelings inside and the addiction is fed And if something magical should occur You have no need to defer, let the essence take your stride And if it pleases you to wait and let the rain gush down the drain It is the essence that takes your stride And out of the convalescent fog We crawl back into our beds and tuck up tight tonight
11.
Skid Marks 02:27
Stuck in a car in a ditch next to an electric fence Swear words fill the air, the due laden thoughtful air Young gum trees in silhouette hang ragged like sad hams on the dusk With their leaves above and their eyes where the branches died I can write poetry about the peeling bark and foolish hearts There’s nothing like those first drinks that bring ties and knots together Forget-me-knot plume, not just a peephole in the noon But a world of fight and skid marks
12.
With a perfect frown you spoil the party Bottom lip to the ground, you can give away your innocence When the memories make a sound, this is it - you can spoil the party You’re a party pooper not a clown and your fragrance is irritating But you’re still communicating I can tell we are not on the same page my friend The labyrinth arises in your eyes, then we escape And the heroes have a purpose – not money And the heroes have a usefulness – not money And the heroes will get the job done with the money And if the pestilence should infect our pride
13.
A crisp green playing field stretches out to the distant road All colours and creeds are equal here - or so I’m told At least for the duration of the game But even then, the medal presentation is a deliverance from on high A kind of mocking gesture from the sky Like the Prime Ministers smirk at an inquisitive journalist just doing their work Untouchable, unassailable, unstoppable, unimpeachable, Inequitable self-righteous jerk, the Prime Ministers smirk All hail to the greatest team All bow to the greatest team All scream for the greatest team we know A crisp green playing field in the middle of June Full of promise and reward For some a chance to be adored To be adored that is your reward (repeat)
14.
What feeds the joy? What feeds the joy? What feeds your joy? What feeds your fancy? What feeds your hunger? What little surprise might be hiding under your skirts? What feeds your cravings? What feeds your eyes? What’s the worlds imagination doing looking so surprised? Follow the wagons west Follow the wagons west, what feeds the joy? Fight fight, change change, cure cure, country country, leader leader Dangerous dangerous, cancer cancer, boss boss, hog hog, slap slap, stick stick, humour, humour The atmosphere is great, but the ambulance is late With your friends by your side, you will find the love you’ve always longed for It’s no surprise, life leaves your eyes – slip away Close your eyes, slip away What feeds the joy? The neon lights were bright in your eyes tonight
15.
You sit on your own, lost in your room Lost in your thoughts, cultivating dreams Devices of mind, you seek and you find The truculent voice as if you had a choice When pleasures hold sway, your opulent mind Gives up the day, embracing the night The hours of dark, hold treasures unknown Your opulent heart, its beauty is shown You can do no harm except to yourself Beauty unknown (repeat) In your safety zone with your beauty unknown Play a secret part with your opulent heart The sun may be rising, but it’s still dark In your room, in your heart The day is beginning to start For the nocturnal movements, it’s time to part

about

To call me an obsessive character would not go far enough to explain the late night sessions in music madness mode (as my 10 year old describes it), taking myself to the brink of collapse slumped over a base guitar. Still striving to improve the songs and improve their production and mastering - lots of different jobs involved in recording music. It is a challenge to be master of all facets of the process. There are advantages and disadvantages in doing it all yourself. On one hand you are completely free and in complete control of the product. On the other you lose the advantage of having different perspectives, and censorship play a role.

Written and recorded very quickly in under three weeks, Memory Box again reflects on life and times, and communicates situations and aspects of living drawn from memories but with a contemporary reference point. The music is evolving gradually, to what end I shall not dare predict. I might need to take a break now, I'm feeling quite exhausted!

about

Euie b Graham Canberra, Australia

Ending formal lessons on violin, I began writing songs in 1992, graduating to a four-track cassette recorder shortly after, and the addictive journey of composing then recording was entrenched. I continue, assimilating influences and forging my own way. I shy away from performing, I write, record then move on. I would love others to listen and enjoy, and hold out hope that I May find an audience. ... more
