Vestiges of Hope

Sometimes the words are not all Meanings have guessing’s and friends Chapters have beginnings and ends Oh, to live between lines that are between us all Oh, to live between lines that are between us all Sometimes the words don’t stand tall Versions the beginnings of lies Neptune in Pisces on high Just a metaphysical why! Save me from all the looking’s forecast, pissing’s outcast, rat race, poker face Trail blazing acquired taste, garbage car parks, Trailing’s, pork barrels, French fry smiles Oh, have you ever seen the world come to the brink of war? And do you ever clean the floor after you’ve made a mess again? It’s written in the streaks and the lines Written between the sinks and the grime Written all over the seats and stools Hanging like cobwebs from their stools The rain-bomb skies are as damaging as the lies written between the lines

Like a temple, like a steeple, raining flowers, rain down your petals on me A cathedral, like a castle, in a garden rain down your flowers on me – rain down This is a moment to remember A Ying and Yang in fruit vines A couple are united underneath the grey skies Celebration, procreation, in a mansion rain down your letters of love Flying buttress, pointed arches, stained glass windows Rain down reflections of love Rain down reflections of love What is life? What is life if we’re not together? (Repeat)

Short Swift 04:06
Who needs a gun when you have no choices? Who needs the fun when your world is rain-bombed Who needs hope when you have no devices? Who needs a job when you’ve got no time to waste? Who needs to work when you’re just a dirty stop in? Who needs to jerk when you’re fashions are oblivious? Who needs to smirk when a war is a like a savior? Who needs a prize when you revel in your failure? Who holds the power when your voice is going nowhere? Who needs a shower when the grime is thick and ugly? Who will you call when you’re heading for a disaster? What floats your boat when you’re heading for an ice burg? What should you wear underneath the mask of friendship? Who should you ring when you’re family is a stranger? When should you ring when you’re family is a stranger? Who should you vote for when you’ve no one to believe in? Who drives the cars when you’ve had too much to drink? Ho w will you fare when the world is a disaster? Short Swift!

Well it’s expression like start and it’s coming round your town We’ll be opening cars and hanging on sunshine Every bit a stranger, the convalescent moonshine Keep yourself out of danger protected by your goldmine I’ve seen those words before they flash across my TV I’ve told you times before not to call my mobile phone But it never seems to make a difference to Everybody who’s hustling for a buck and a scam So you are what you own, but you can’t afford a sports car You can’t be told or shown because your idol is a superstar So what becomes of us now if we haven’t got the money And there’s not enough time to pay off the mortgage man I’ve seen those words before they flash across my TV screen I’ve told you times before not to call my mobile phone I watch the strange parade to and from their shopping It’s too late to be saved from the goods and services trade I’ve seen those words before they flash across my TV screen I’ve told you times before not to call my mobile phone But I never get an answer The goods and services trade

Emotions rising, hard of hearing Looking for the way out of here Hard of seeing, climbing the walls out of fear Without reason Like a vine climbing through the ceiling seeking the sun Only to find a dark sky façade (background voice) Holding in my hands the means of my destruction The voices from the past now need no explanation We drink the dregs of bitterness to blue emotion We gentle humor gamesmanship the fast reaction We chatter box reflect the world and all its danger We want to see the CCTV footage played back We calculate the ways to make the money last (Repeat) We see versions of ourselves through television Crack whiplash tongue tired of feeling the end has begun Emotions rising, its not surprising Camouflage the pollution, toxic thoughts pervade the emptiness False panacea, G.P sees right through me My usefulness is over, what cause is left to endure? We see versions of our selves through television And if you live in a house of cards... (repeat till end)

Out of the shadows into the dark Out of the fry pan into the flames You’ve lost your emotion, lost your control The sentence is over but you’re still on parole Sometimes you don’t even recognize yourself, when you’re alone You’re just a stranger searching for a hand to hold Double exposure in a petulant light You gave me the feeling that you’re bracing for a fight Double exposure, double exposure You’re double exposure, next to your ghost What will it take to unite your dispirit selves A pattern repeated, through time and places No witchcraft or wisdom will unite your dispirit selves Once I thought, no further than the fence posts Once I caught a glimpse of something larger Like a Tardis it was bigger on the inside You bring the sound of rain when you come You’re in and out of form when the dreams come down You’re in and out of focus You’re looking slightly hopeless when you take a shave You’re in and out of focus You’re in and out of focus

Scarlet Days 04:11
Red letter day is captured on paper Traffic stops your way, petrels on empty Run every mile, cut every corner Turn every dial, court out of order Flick through the music, click out the light Paint a self portrait, kiss me goodnight Eye of the storm, parliament is sitting You have rights you should learn – tradies cat calling You have much to learn, the juries mistaken You must hide your pride, the verdict is token Scarlet days, in these scarlet days Run every mile, cut every corner Turn every dial, court out of order Flick through the music, click out the light

X-Generation 05:01
It takes blood for devotion It takes tears to fill an ocean It takes mud to raise an army It takes power to stop tsunamis It takes time to gather wisdom It takes money to rule a kingdom It takes luck to form connections It takes blood for inspiration It takes time and perspiration It’s so hard to keep moving forward When the world is full of have-nots If old money hasn’t landed And retirement is a fiction like heaven We are judged on our actions We are judged by reaction We plead our case to the inter-net Another face to be weary of The common place is a super market It’s just a race for competition The money wage just keeps us floating (repeat)

Doctor, I have a concern, lately I haven’t been feeling right Maybe it’s all in my mind Sometimes I’ve lost the desire to fight Have you got a prescription? Have you a miracle cure for this malaise? Doctor what do you say? Is there anything left in the tank? Medication can make me desire Therapy can make you perspire Counseling the hip pocket nerve Balancing upon your diagnosis Constant measure, to find your pleasure Constant monitoring to find that sweet spot you’ve been missing Never follow through, return to your own world – too good to be true No need to fear, nobody can touch you there Too good to be true, Too good to be true Doctor I need some advice, an ally with whom I can bare my soul Doctor I need some device that will bring out my best everyday What do you say to my pleading eyes? What should I pay for your sterling advice?

Everybody’ sitting down To dine together is so rare, the tablecloth is worse for ware The cutlery is what we can find A consequence of being domestically blind Observations of the day, relayed in all our different ways Some pieces don’t see to fit The salt and pepper collide, the napkins conspire in ardor Knives and folks to their prey do rouse Dessert spoons are waiting for the glee Glasses half full or half empty The left quadrant has declared war on the soup dangling chandeliers The candles have wilted away, no more cards left to play And you find yourself in the most uncomfortable chair (repeat)
11.
Time digs away at your mind, leaves treasures to find Sometimes they fade away Surprise there’s a different hue in your eyes There’s a corner page to be turned once more And a never never landing in a perfect square Compromise, there’s a different choice in your eyes Monopolise, smothering things you want to feel so bad Epitomise, be a perfect example moment A sure fire fragment, a conical conclusion Wipe the tears from your eyes, traverse the trailing’s and places Immerse yourself in the faces The Theatre of the mind, all the silt that has made its way All the tiny shells that have been washed away Tailings dreams in your eyes Tailings dreams in disguise Tailings dreams in the sky Tailings dreams never die Tailings dreams in your eyes Tailings dreams in disguise Tailings dreams in the sky Tailings dreams never die
12.
It’s been three days at a time The military supply lines have been growing vastly With their men and machines Production lines, destruction lines Like the Congo cobalt mines And the everyday rhort’s inquiries You can always grease a palm in case you get scared Live a life of charm until the money runs out The people are used like figures on a game board People are moved like pieces on a game board Holding on to hope likes it’s a winning ticket Raise the periscope the enemy is near You gamble he will choke, not play his winning thunder Return to the age of plunder Make salesman of us all, just soldiers in a war Of course we’ve seen this before, just another war Don’t you get tired of it all? Tired of it all (repeat)

about

I try to make each new album better than its predecessor, which is not easy when this is my 7th album in less than a year and a half of recording. Each release has its own flavour, even if only mildly different. The more I listen to this music the more apparent that it is about conflict. Be that conflict with nature and the devastating consequences of the climate crises and ever more frequent extreme weather events; the war in Ukraine which has pervaded our hearts and minds as we watch a society dismembered, its people beleaguered and dispossessed of hope and dignity; and conflict on a more personal scale battling depressions and antidotes alike, and the harmful effect of capitalist entrenchment that has weakened self-determination and fostered social inequity in its insidious and culturally depraved manner. It is not easy listening because it is forged from lived experience, deep seated empathy and an overwhelming sense of hopelessness. This may cause a listener to switch off, turn the dial to something more uplifting. But this is no concern of mine, as I will be fortunate if anyone listens at all. Having said that, I still hold out a glimmer of hope, that my communications are appreciated in some small way. I offer this collection as a way of remaining somewhat connected to my race, as artists are compelled to express and to share.

about

Euie b Graham Canberra, Australia

Ending formal lessons on violin, I began writing songs in 1992, graduating to a four-track cassette recorder shortly after, and the addictive journey of composing then recording was entrenched. I continue, assimilating influences and forging my own way. I shy away from performing, I write, record then move on. I would love others to listen and enjoy, and hold out hope that I May find an audience. ... more
